From what my Cadre says the books that Cadet Command issues are complete crap. I've looked through um and they def. aren't worth yer time or money (atleast the books for MS 1's and MSII's.) Yer best bet to get ahead would be to pick up an FM 7-8. 7-8 is your basic Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad Manual. For the most part, everything you do in ROTC will come out of this book. Another one ya might wanna look into is the current FM on Drill and Ceremony. Im not sure what the number is exactely. They issued us the old 22-5's. Every cadet that has come back from LDAC has said that Drill and Ceremony was huge out there. This is one of those things ya don't wanna look totally ate up on when ya need to shine. If you get a 7-8 and whatever the new D&C manual is, you'll def. be squared away

I suggest you read:
FM 3-21.5 (fomerly 22-5) Drill and Ceremonies
FM 22-100 Army Leadership
FM 21-20 Physical Fitness Training
FM 7-8 Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad
FM 3-22.9 RIFLE MARKSMANSHIP M16A1, M16A2/3, M16A4, AND M4 CARBINE
And of course the ROTC TACSOP, which has a lot of info from the above mentioned sources as well as the little things you'll need to know like the creed, oath, army song, etc.

Yeah, the ROTC text books aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
Read the FMs, books on leadership

that's easy, killa- google the FMs listed (i.e. FM 3-21.5, FM 7-8, FM 22-100 etc) or talk to your friendly military science department and ask if you can check out a copy of each one. They may only have old editions, but it'll give you a good framework.

they're all online- so yeah. Also when you do pick up your ROTC books (although they do generally suck) it has a CD in the back. If I remember right, that CD has the bugel calls as well as all the FMs on it. You may have to dig a bit, but should have up-to-date versions.

QueenzJade, you soon learn that PT isn't an adequate program for getting in shape, it just barely keeps you in shape. If you show your cadre that you can take the initiative and get in shape on your own time (or their pound-shedding program) it will give you an edge over the competition for scholarships. If you don't find anything about the program don't be afraid to take a running class or some similar thing. Running and diet combined is one of the best ways to lose weight.

Thank you for the info and well I will ask them about the shedding weight program see what they say. But I Know I can do well on the PT but need to get my weight down and I know I can do it during my own time and ike you said I been on a healthy diet and starting the gym again next week. I am also running around my neighborhood.
