Whatup?

Stinky, TheChick, Thrawn, Bonerface311, and ratly_99:

Did you guys not realize what you were doing when you registered or are you doing the mindless thing and observing before you post. I find that hard to believe since Stinky has been registered since April. Whatever, I don't care the reason why. Why not use this topic thread as a "welcome, howya doing, my name is: fill in the blank" area. So if you have yet to be introduce, feel free to do it here.

I'll get this started: Hey, my name is Sammy Sandbag (nothing to do with my real name.) I run the website with Domer (read: I do everything.) If you feel the need to bitch about my slack job, I direct you to Love/Hate forum. Anyways, I was commissioned this year and spent all four years in ROTC. Right now I'm in the Real World looking for a civy job and waiting for OBC. I'm trying to add to the website. Current work includes: a camp guide, army dictionary, clean-ing up the look and feel of the site, FAQ/Q&A, FM7-8 guide, yellow card guide, and more. Feel free to drop any other suggestions in. Domer and I are looking to turn the humor/creative part (aside from the comic) over to you the viewer. Start submitting your funny. Oh, by the way, the more original the better. Email attatchments forwarded across the world are overplayed, so try and come up with some of your own work. Jeez that's about it, unless you got some questions. Now it's your turn, who's first?

Let's see if I can answer your questions:

1. I'm assuming that you are in Kuwait because your unit is there.
2. Why yes you can post here. Anyone and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in the conversation. While AisforArmy.com began as a project while Domer and I were cadets, it is now a site for all enlisted, officers, students, civilians, yadda yadda. We have several enlisted forum members. One other forum member is also deployed currently, others have returned from the Middle East.

Thanks for serving your Country, and hope you become a very active forum member. I'm sure your advice and experiences will be helpful to other members.

p.s. I got nothing but love TheChick

Yes, I like this forum because it shows a lighter side to army life. Other forums are way too serious. Anyhow, why do soldiers have to wear their kevlar while driving a humvee or tactical vehical in kuwait. And why do they have to where a kevlar in a cucv but not a NTV(civilian vehical)?

Not sure about exact reasons, but here's story for ya... good friend of mine just came home in pieces (yes, still alive, just banged up) because he got thrown out of a HMMWV. Especially since he was going 50+ mph on an Iraqi highway, the fact that he was wearing his kevlar probably helped out quite a bit. Plus, the whole middle east is hostile these days... not sure why you WOULDN'T have to wear a k-pot anywhere... if it was me, I'd have that sucker glued to my head or something just in case.

Sammy, I think TheChick is just jealous of the supreme power that you wield here. Enjoy it while you can.

Well I'd have to agree with Gambit on the whole safety issue of wearing a K-pot while drving a military vehichle. I'd venture to say that there is probably some obscure TM/FM somewhere that requires you to have one on while operating certain vehicles under certain circumstances. If I was more motivated I'd search through TRADOC's website to see what I could find. It's probably also a commander's call type of situation. Obviously you don't always have to have a kevlar on when you drive around (ie convoys on the highway, driving to BK, etc)

You still have CUCV's? I thought those were long gone for most units. You got any M1009's? I'd like to buy one if you can slip it out of the motorpool.

Hell yeah we still got CUCVs. My shop's truck is a M109 duece and half made in 1965. The CUCVs are new. Awesome trucks too, especially when you stick humvee tires on them. My company has 5 M1031s. If I was a LT, I would make them give me a 1008, which is more heavy duty than a 1009 and I could stick my anoying platoon sergeant in the bed, so I wouldn't have to here him cry about how he's been in for 900 years and some college kid etc et al.... A Humvee will kick a 1009 or 1008 ass off road though, but they do more than enough and are WARM in cold places like Colorado.

Thanks Guy, I'll be doing some work on it here and there. Remind me every now and then about. I'm sure I could use some help on certain aspects of cadet life, as I haven't been one for some time now.
