Who got SEAL Team 6 to the door step and back home that night? Iv heard 1 source say it was the night stalkers. Reguardless this was an epic joint operation im sure.

I haven't heard anything, but talking with some in the class they're thinking SMA. Some good arguments were made as well. Basically, most everything has been hearsay as details really haven't been released. With that, I'm not completely sure the type of aircraft used were disclosed. Some have said 60's, but then again I heard 40 crunchies went in so that'd take more 60's than I believe the compound could hold... So who knows? Personally, I think Mi-17s would've been a good choice because they've the capacity for tons of troops and wouldn't draw attention as much as some 60's cruising through the air. That leads me to believe is was SMA as well.

Where's the solid evidence is was just SEAL 6? Some news outlet just say it was them? Is there any quotes from anyone? I don't know, I can just vouch for what I've read and hope they're accurate but that's not always the case with media. Probably a mix of SEALs, maybe some CIA assistance and maybe some Delta operators.

Just trying to see if there's any *facts*

I read some of the transcripts of the dialog from whitehouse.gov they said in the initial infil that they almost scrubbed the mission because a chinook went down.

media outlets said a half squadron completed the raid (so around 24 operators) but then why would you need a chinook? BBC said after interviewing a pakistani intel officer that many of the people inside (that werent killed) were left flexcuffed and they thought that they were most likely going to take them but couldnt. I think thats poor speculation they would flex cuff them any way so they were out of the picture.

i agree with un4.. im sure it was a joint operator/agent mission. And that we will never know until 10 years from now the true mission makeup..

from the whitehouse trascripts it seems that "the man" had live helmet footage and was able to micromanage live decisions.

Could you imagine... seems pretty wild to me. President in your ear saying "kill him" that makes it pretty easy huh?

Here's a few more details, a couple from Panetta. I really like it when the source is someone that is legitimate and they've said it in an interview.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/05/04/bin.laden.raid/index.html?eref=rss_topstories&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fcnn_topstories+%28RSS%3 A+Top+Stories%29&utm_content=Google+Reader

I don't know if Obama had the ability to call the shots from the SitRoom, but they claim they watched it.

Just waiting for more details....

Another reason why i dont like journalists "interpretations" of what was talked about during a press conference. The best way to get the information is to go to the source.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/05/02/press-briefing-senior-administration-officials-killing-osama-bin-laden

Q Yes, hey, how are you doing? My question would be, what was the type of the helicopter that failed? And what was the nature of that mechanical failure?

SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL: Can’t go into details at this time.

SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL: We didn’t say it was mechanical.

"Earlier: SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL: During the raid, we lost one helicopter due to mechanical failure. The aircraft was destroyed by the crew and the assault force and crew members boarded the remaining aircraft to exit the compound. "

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/05/02/press-briefing-press-secretary-jay-carney-and-assistant-president-homela

Q Could you hear shots fired?

MR. BRENNAN: We were able to monitor the situation in real-time. (Laughter.)

http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/05/02/osama-bin-laden-dead

I cant find the one where there is an un-named intel official commenting on the types of helicopters but i know i read it somewhere that it was a chinook on the whitehouse.gov site.. These transcripts are real time and matters of record, a lot better than some biased shit head reporter giving me the information.

Girex, I dont think that POTUS had the ear directly to say "kill him". He gave the order for the mission to go a few days before hand, and after that it was on.

But frankly, the media as always sucks. Bin Laden is dead, screw it. On to the next one.

yeah thats why i used key words like "seems" and "imagine" i hope it never comes to that but it seems like the tech. is there.

"Obama and his national security team followed the operation as it unfolded, watching television monitors, the air thick with tension at the White House. Nerves were raw when one of the two Black Hawk helicopters that descended into the bin Laden compound Monday fell heavily to the ground. Officials believe that was due to higher-than-expected air temperature that interfered with the chopper’s ability to hover — an aeronautical condition known as “hot and high.”" from armytimes.

I have never heard of such a condition of "hot and high" iv heard of " a high ambient temperature and a high pressure altitude..." sounds like someone didnt do a proper Performance Planning Card lol...

If these are legit... WTF is it? lol

ABC news says it's a Blackhawk that has been modified. (http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/top-secret-stealth-helicopter-program-revealed-osama-bin/story?id=13530693&page=2)

But if there's as many individuals on this raid as they claim, and only a couple birds to do it, how'd they get all that intel, personnel and UBL's body onto a single aircraft for exfil? Just encouraging thought.

im not going to talk about it on a public forum.... I sure as hell hope somone goes back to recover or drop a cruize on it ASAP... Thats a lot of $ of R & D for some fucko to revearse engineer.

Eye witness reports point to more than 3 blackhawks... if one came in hot and aparently cracked a tail boom on the landing a half squadron (aprox 24 dudes) plus a body would still fit on 3 hawks... thats probably why they didnt take as many prisoneers as they would have liked to. some of the Pakistani intel(if there is such a thing any more) reported finding like 6 people zip tied when they showed up on the scene... maybe they were gonna take them and couldnt? maybe they were just keeping them out of the picture during the raid? who knows...

has anyone seen that twitter page of the guy that talks about helicopter noise outside and had no idea that it was the raid? ill post a link tomorrow its on the work comp....

also it is looking more like "flight concepts/ virginia boys" might have picked up the mission instead of 160th, would make sense considering the joint nature.

What are everybody's thoughts on Obama's decision to not release the photos to the public? I actually agree with him on this one. While I'm not a huge Obama fan, I think it's culturally disrespectful as well as immature to do something like that. I'm no bleeding heart liberal, and I couldn't care less about showing respect to Bin Laden, but showing those photos just seems savage to me. They confirmed it through DNA, and the vast majority of Americans (myself included) don't know enough about what he looks like to say, "Yeah that's definately him." As Obama stated, those who don't think we actually got him are not going to be convinced with a photo anyways. There are always conspiracy theorists.

I think the photo should be released the day after we are out of both A-stan and Iraq.

Frankly I think that this whole thing should've been kept relativley quiet- that when asked about what happened in Pakistan that it was said "we have no comment" vs the media blitz and that we let it filter out that Bin Laden was killed, we all know it would've gotten out. Then 5-10 years from now stuff starts being declassified and at that point acknowledge what happened. However, as the "rumors" were leaked, he would come off the top of our list stating that we had highly credible evidence that he was dead. Just saying that there would've been a lot to be gained from having our enemy not know what other information we acquired in the raid.

On another note, I think the POTUS did a very good job on this one. Kudos.

Unfortunatley I dont see how that would have been possible. A significant operation occured in a realtively dense population in a Sovreign nation, and there were a lot of witness as well as the wreckage from an American Helicopter. I dont see how we could have gotten away with denying it. I think the way we handled it was pretty spot-on, we saw the need and we went for it and took responsobility for it because we have nothing to be ashamed of.

Girex, I think it's flight concepts too. (SMA = flight concepts)

I don't care either way if the pics are released but personally I would like to see his top blown off. In 2001 I seen people falling off buildings so call me a little de-sensitized.

Kudos to obama on this one. He acted on intelligence from the same agencies that Bush did regarding WMDs. Interesting. But nonetheless good call. Sometimes you just gotta go balls deep and trust your sources.

KN, no way this could've been covered up like Un4 said. and when someone at the bar asked me the other night if this was real, my response was "Its not an election year, so yeah."

If Bin Laden isnt dead, neither is Pac!

That might actually be my favorite conspiracy of my lifetime thus far. I was a teenager when Pac was killed, and I remember the vast amount of ridiculousness going around about how he faked his death and was coming back in seven years. That was fifteen years ago...

First source that claims 160th
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/06/obama-meets-navy-seals-raided-bin-laden/

I know, it's fox news... But on my RSS reader I read Fox and CNN just to balance it out and CNN sucks and are never up to date. Neither here nor there. Sounds like a 160th job and POTUS went to Campbell to congrats the 160th.
