Hey there, my name's Colin and I'm looking for some info on becoming an officer in the US army.

Here's my (brief) back story. I am Canadian. I went to RMC (Royal Military College of Canada) for 2 years and was medically released on a technicality (won't get into it here, but it was a real piss off) MUCH to the chagrin of my CO, fellow cadets, teachers; basically everyone. Try we could the upper administration wouldn't budge.

Anyhow, I had a friend of mine in the US ask his recruiter about me, and I guess I'm good to go in the US army; all I need is a green card.

So, before I go all gung-ho over this, I'm looking for some info.

1) What are the chances of geting into westpoint? I've got the grades and the physical attributes, so what what's the selection process like?

2) Is Wespoint more a pain in the ass than it's worth? I know RMC was annyoing at first but once I got the hang of it after first semester, I loved it; Westpoint anything like that?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Colin

I personally like the duality of being a college student and an army cadet. I get the best of both worlds.

I'm not speaking from any prior knowledge on this, but I'm assuming that you're gonna have one tough time getting into West Point. To be accepted, you need a Congressional nomination from a Senator or a Congressman, and I would really doubt that they could give you an appointment if you aren't a US citizen.... I know you can go through an ROTC program at a civillian college as long as you become naturalized... but the bottom line is, I'm pretty sure u need to be a citizen to become an USMA cadet

You need to naturalize. One of my fellow Cadets did so last year. You need to naturalize before the beginning of your III year. Which means you dont have enough time!

Best thing would be to enlist for four years(Speeds up naturalization process) and apply for OCS, Green-to-Gold, or then apply for a USMA nomination.

all the US cadets i know here have become naturalized, i dont think you can come if you arent a full citizen or not sponsored by your country, but if you want more info, PM me and i can get you the numbers for the admission people who might be able to give you the best answer.
just one thing to consider though, west point doesnt accept any transfer credit, so you would be here an additional 4 years on top of what you have done already...
