Afghanistan B-1... Priceless!

This just in - from an ODA guy currently in country...

So, we are up in the mountains at about 0100 hrs looking for a bad guy that
we thought was in the area. Here are ten of us, pitch black, crystal clear
night, about 25 degrees. We know there are bad guys in the area; a few
shots have been fired but no big deal.

We decide some air cover would be nice and the only thing in the area is a
solo B-1 bomber. He flies around at about 20,000 feet and tells us there
is nothing in the area to drop on right now. He then asks if we would like a low level show of force.

Stupid question. Of course we tell him yes.

The controller who is attached to the team is then heard talking to the pilot. Pilot asks if we want it subsonic or supersonic.

Very stupid question.

Pilot advises he is twenty miles out and for us to stand by.

The controller gets us all sitting down in a line and points out the proper
location.

You have to picture this: Pitch black, twelve killers sitting down, dead
quiet and overlooking this "about 30 mile long" valley.

All of a sudden, way out (and well below our level) we see a set of four
200' white flames coming at us. The controller says, "Ah - guys - you
might want to plug your ears." Faster than you can think "B-1 - supersonic," at
about 1,000' over our heads, he blasts the sound barrier and it feels like God just hit you in the head with a hammer.

He then stands it straight up and, with 4 trails of white flame coming out
his rear-end, he disappears.

Fuel cost: Probably about $50,000

Probability of hearing damage: 100%

Bunch of rag-heads thinking twice about shooting at us: PRICELESS!!!

hey man, thats on supercool experience.
i watched a flyby of B-1 at the tel aviv beach.

1998 there was a show to honor the israeli air force on its 50th bday. one B-1 came in straight flight from its base in texas (15 hrs) to tel aviv, made to earchrashing flybys and flew straight back. it was awesome.

though to see that at night with full burner is the ULTIMATE the more so if it is in hostile country.

be well and alert out there.

There's just something about the ability to drop that much high explosive (can carry 84 500lb bombs internally) that turns me on

B-52 is still a better plane.

Fuck the B-1

TheTokenGook

The B-1 has the greatest weapons load of any bomber in the world in addition to it being the fastest.
An interesting side note, last I checked the B-2 is set to retire around 2020 or 2025, while the B-52 is expected to have possibly up to 50 yrs more service! A lot of that does have to do to the large fleet of B-52s in the boneyard, so parts will be no problem, while there are only 21 B-2s in existance. Another is that the B-52 is still being updated. For the past ten yrs it has been planned for the B-52's 8 engines to be replaced by 4 more powerful GE engines. Still haven't gotten around to it yet, but it's still being thought of. Also, there is speculation that some B-52 airframes will be modified for the electronic warfare role.

The B-1 doesn't fly. Motherfuckers are always broke on the ramp here. B-52 > B-1.

b-52 = mad suckage...less bombload...a lot slower...can't fly as low as well...(b-1 designed for low altitude high speed penetration of enemy air defense)...b-1 has a radar cross section 100 times lower than the b-52 which comes in useful when the enemy is using more than rpgs/sa-7s and ZSUs for air defense......

granted they are both fine for hovering over third world nations and dropping JDAMs on mudhuts...but when the shit really hits the fan....b-52 would be worthless in all but the ALCM function...

not to mention that the b-1 does the job with fewer crew members... :)

Except it misses sorties because the motherfucker is always broke. Dude, we have three broke B-1's out on the ramp right now. And they're missing sorties as we speak.

what's the b-1 going to be used for right now anyways....

and i know a lot of people bitch about the BUFF's maintenance....assload needed due to being old as fuck...

maintenance hours increase dramatically with aircraft age...i'm sure you know this....

I want a cookie. Last summer I got to fly the B-1, fucking sweet it was. I even got to drop some Mark-84's over Texas. That plane is kick ass I tell you. They are thinking about making it an electronic warfare plane though...

The B-52 is still due to be in service after the Bone is retired, and even updated. Especially since there are so many B-52 spares at AMARC and 1/3 of Bone fleet just got sent there.

6 July 2004, 16:29
No you're right a is for army, but the army is so freakin' awesome that the airforce want to hang out with the army. I think they're having second thoughts about becoming a seperate branch.

A is indeed for Army, but I happen to be a Pershing Riflemen so I do have a little Army in my blood. If you are so worried about Air Force infiltrating your site, then why do you praise the B-1 on it? Seems to me ya'll all enjoyed the B-1 story which helped out some Army grunts and everyone certainly enjoyed the pics. I just shared my experiences with the B-1 like the rest of ya'll. Don't hate because you weren't smart enough to join the Air Force!

Ha... AF though he may be, and wierd sig though he may have (LSU, you gotta admit... that's a weak sig), that man is certainly at the top of my list for people that are cool as shit. So don't fuck with him, he'll bomb your ass. ;)

But really, LSU... just because you don't do any work in the AF doesn't mean that you were smart for joining it... at least the Army gets face-to-face gratification when it comes to enforcing democracy across the world. (says the civilian)

LSUSAF04

Actually, the whole don't hate comment was just me joking around and poking a little fun back at the Army (hence the ), ya'll know ya'll give it to us enough.

And I happen to like my sig, so it's going to stay.

Right, and it IS cool... in context. OUT of context, it's just weak. :P How about one of these?
