Besides the dumb list given by CC, what else do you guys suggest I bring to previous NALC, previous Camp, no LDAC/Warrior Forge....

Two words: mosqito net. The mosqitos at Lewis are so big they have tigger stripes on them. I didn't get mine until I got there (there is a mini px near the barracks where you can get stuff if your cadre will let you go). Also, Wet Ones or some other kind of handi whipes are great to have on hand too, cause you get pretty dirty in the field and they get off camo great. Bring lots of bug spray too (with DEET in it). :D

Yeah, my moderator was just telling a couple of us to get mosquito nets...I was looking on Ranger Joes, they sell one that covers over a cot, would that be good for the field? Usually, I just throw down a poncho and cover up with a liner...would putting that kind of net work well?

Yes, mosquito net is a big thing you'll want to have. Get the kind that goes over your head, not the full length kind. Also make sure it's the type with only one opening, not the type for wearing with a Kevlar. The mosquitos aren't anything larger than what's found down in the South, but they are numerous and don't quit. DEET didn't seem to work on them at all, a net will keep them from getting to your face, but the buzzing makes it hard to sleep. Make sure you have plenty of Gold Bond and baby wipes as mentioned. Also get some make-up removing wipes, as they work much better at getting camo off. A very helpful item to have is one of those miniture LED red flashlights. I picked up one at the clothing sales store, but Walmart probably carries them. I never used my bent neck, just put that little LED light on my dog tags. Bring an extra poncho liner. I never broke my bed sheets, except for a few exceptionally cold nights. It was much easier sleeping with two poncho liners instead of having to make my rack every morning. Bring a whistle for signalling during STX. I was the only one in my squad that had one, and it came in handy. Bungie cords are also very useful. You can get OD ones at clothing sales, Ranger Joes, or hunting stores. They make it much easier to attach items to your ruck, versus having to tie and untie 550 cord. Speaking of 550, bring it. Also, get plenty of 100 mph tape (the OD flavor.)

If I think of anything else, I'll be sure and add it. I used to have a list of suggested items that MSIVs from my school had compiled, I'll try and dig it up.

Sammy you hit my big points on teh head --- 2 poncho liners, and a space blanket if you can find it, i was the warmest SOB out there last year. I just slept with my poncho over my face.

Bungee cords, good. 550 cord, good. 100 mph tape... good.

I'd suggest something like a leatherman. Also, Field suspenders. Buy, Borrow or steal these... I was the only one in my platoon to have one, and after we got PX privleges, EVERYONE got one.

Kevlar Donut.. keeps your head nice. I've had the foam one, but i guess theres a gel one thats out now also. Electrical tape is good, it can latch right on to your grenade pouch on your ammo pouch, good for a quick thing.

FOX40 whistle. Pealess, so you wont have to worry about that, the loudest whistle known to mankind.

Gold Bond MEDICATED foot powder (blue bottle), it'll feel like a million tiny elves are dancing all over you.

Bungie cords.. GOOD!

Don't put your padlocks on your duffle bag. Airport security will slice them off if your bag is one of the ones randomly checked, or bring extras. A lot of people in my platoon had unsecured wall lockers for a while because of this.

A good calling card. I don't know how good the deals were out there, but the Walmart AT&T were the best deals youll find. SAMs Club has a steriod version of it.

Writing supplies to write home with, as well as STAMPS. No explanation necessary.

Shower Shoes.
Pond's Cold Cream or Noxzema. Noxzema is great for shaving in the field. (it's original purpose) - go to Walmart and buy the small travel sized, and some dispozable razors to fit in your ruck, less stuff to pack in the small ruck they give you.

Some sort of folding knife.

PLENTY of pens. Like a whole pac of the cheap Bics. Everyone, including you, will lose them.

Permanent markers - you or your buddies will need them for the butcher board for Garrison OPORDS.

Terrain Model Kit, at least 1, i took 2, because they got destroyed, even with laminateing them. glue/tape pennies to the back to keep them down. most likely, your squad will use one the whole time.

Extra protractors, somehow the protractor gnomes get out there and steal the ones you have.

Eye drops for those who wear contacts.

Chapstick - you dont want to look like blister man when you guys are the honor platoon.

Ziplock bags --- quick ways to water proof things...

Dress socks, i wore them under my wool socks for long road marches.. less friction... I didnt get any blisters teh whole time out there.

I'd love to give you guys more input on camp.

I have a shitload of PDF files that are the 5 Paragraph OPORD, CFF ACE,SALUTE, 9 Line that are the same size as the TACSOP that can be laminated and put right in.

This is just my .02 cents...

Post any questions you have regarding this or camp in general or...

If you're a skinny guy or girl or if you just get cold easy, take one of those silver mylar space blankets and use it under your poncho liner at night. It got pretty cold (+/- 40 deg.) some nights last summer during the early months. (I was 3rd Regt.) They are cheap and pack up very small. You can find them in the camping section of Walmart or anywhere like that.
My buddy also brought a propane torch nozzle with him and picked up a small propane tank at the PX before we went to the field so we had hot water for shaving/coffee/whatever in the field. That made a lot of people happy and even the TAC's were impressed.(tell them it's for boosting morale if they hassle you) Just remember to be tactical about it, noise, light and litter discipline always.
Also, a lot of what you are allowed to have will be TAC and Regt. dependant. Some PLT's were allowed to have call for fire, medevac cards, etc. and some PLT's were not. Keep in mind you will not have much room in your ruck, if any, for extras so whatever you take, make sure it's small.
