Justwondering if anyone out there has or has seen MS IV's wear dress blues with only branch colored shoulder boards (no rank-just colored) at a dining in. If so....where can i find the regulation or if someone's PMS allows it, could one help me find out if its a personal decision or a CC reg. Thanks

Yeah, it goes by school. You won't (to my knowledge) find a reg on it, it's just PMS by PMS. It also varies how the uniforms go... I've seen IV's wear blues with cadet ribbons, blues with RA ribbons (for prior service), blues with cloth over the 2LT rank, blues with paper cutouts of the cadet rank over the 2LT rank... it all depends on the mood of the PMS.

At my school, the idea is that the IVs (by the time mil ball comes around) are essentially LTs anyway, so let them dress like ones. I guess it's also a reason to press the cadets to get their uniforms so that they're porperly prepared for military life... wierd, though, as they get commissioned in greens still.

And our first reception at OBC was still in Class A's.

They're expensive - might as well wear them as often as you can. My class A's still have my OBC patch on them, and I've already been in two units. My apathy is amazing, BUT, I have to get a DA photo now that I have a shiny silver bar, so I guess I'll have to change them.

I have seen cadets wear the blues, but I have been in college a long time, and that was long ago. Some of them wore cadet rank pinned in the shoulder boards, but I think it looked not-quite-right. Like the others said, it varies on school whether or not you can do it. No info on where to get these infamous "third lieutenant" boards though. Sorry.
