Hey, I'm going to Korea here in a few weeks...Camp Cassey I do believe, has anyone out there been before? Advice, comments are more than welcome because I'm not too sure what to expect.

uhh I've been to Korea about 8 times, but all on vacation..anything specifically you want to know about the culture, or is this specifically military related?

hmm... Been to Suwon Air Base, but not Casey... sorry, not much help here. CKim can probably take care of you better re: culture, also... I'm a gaijin. ;)

Culture is good, anything insanely offensive that I should do?

I mean "shouldn't do"

I can't really think of anything to be honest. Just be courtious, and you should be fine. But just like in the US, you will find assholes in Korea who hate the American Army for being there, so be prepared for that.

AF brat?

nope... no immediate family in the military. however, there is an ADA unit stationed there (it's kinda wierd, given that it's actually a ROK base), and i popped in their for a minute. Friggin' Koreans do everything to music, it's bizarre... the whole post is strung with speakers, and they play marches for wakeup, breakfast, lunch, dinner, bedtime, potty time... it gets a little old.

hey, here's a suggestion... the "chicken on a stick" is REALLY good... and if it's friend, it's not half bad either. If it's in a soup, though, be CAREFUL. For whatever reason, I couldn't get over how bad most of their food tasted.

I'm korean, and I won't eat half the stuff that the people over there do. By the way, don't eat at McDonald's or burgerking, or even pizza hut at that...they've taken wholesome good food and changed it to a twisted warped crap factory :(

Yeah, I've been hearing about the loud ass propoganda projected across the DMZ that I'll have to listen to everynight. "You go home now GI"

Casey is actually a fairly decent place. Nice PX/mini mall and good MWR facilities. I was at Stanley for about 3 months, which has nothing to speak of. We'd make trips to Casey and Red Cloud if we needed anything. It's a longer drive to Yongson (sp?), but they also have the largest commisary in the Army. Yeah, KFC is your best bet as far as off-post fast food dining. And I don't recall any sort of propoganda being projected across the DMZ. You are probably thinking of the protesting South Koreans. Just be thankful that you aren't stuck with a ROK Army unit, their lives suck.
