Hi, I'm Zach. MS1 ROTC at UCSB. Gotta pass my PT test before I can contract, but I'm working on it.
I want to go to Airborne and Mountain Warfare, but obviously the APFT is holding me back for now.
Branch wise I'm torn between infantry and MI, we'll see what happens as I go through the program.

Hobbies include politics, computers, volunteering. Ask me any info you want, I don't know what else to share.

Dedeye, if the PFT is holding you back from contracting, you've a tough row to how in regards to Airborne & Mountain warfare.

Welcome. Now, drop & give me 50. It'll do ya good.

What's your weakness for the PT test (or is it all of the above)?

For push-ups if you do 10 every time you pass through a doorway you'll get better fast. Damn sore for a while, but much better. Flutter kickin' it for a full song on the radio to the beat does good things for your situps as does doing situps on an incline. For running- just run and set goals.

Anyway, welcome.

Just had another APFT today. I passed the situp portion with 55 and failed the pushup and run.
Only 28 pushups counted, and after the test my grader explained what I was doing wrong (bad form, dropping the hips), so I'm square on what I need to do to improve pushups. I finished the run in 17:45, and the first mile was complete in 7:50, so obviously I need to work on my endurance. Thanks for all the advice on how to improve, I'll be sure to try it.
Thanks for the replies, too. Except you Acedeuce ;-).

Hang out in the front leaning rest in correct form. Works out your core and trains it so it doesn't zap your energy later during your test. Also if you're comfortable enough to do it, have a buddy provide support to your hips as you do your push-ups. Helps with form and as you need less help they can give less help.

Alright, C, you just made me laugh in the library. Reminds me of this time we were doing PT on the lawn outside our fitness center and one of my classmates was having a tough time with his form. SFC P came over and asked "What you doin' there Cadet? You find a gopher hole?" To which he replied without actually listening (or maybe understanding) "Yes SGT." We all spent the rest of the pushup time trying not to laugh(and failing miserably-SFC included).

my usual comments to pledges...they are either trying to fuck the ground or sticking their ass so high in the air they want to get ass fucked by my foot.

I overheard a Blackhat at Benning telling one of the Airborne cadets...

"Get your ass down, son. My boot's just not in the mood right now."

Haha. Excellent quotes C, KN and Skull.

10 min to do your second mile? Like I said...

Anyways, just work at it. Go fucking work out. Right now. Get up. GO.

I'm certainly no PT stud, and I've been called fatty more then a coupla times myself, but use it as motivation! Prove me wrong! Your scores are pathetic - no way to sugarcoat that.

my cousin goes to UCSB. He's an MS2 and went to jump school last summer a week behind me, so you probably know who I'm talking about by now.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about. I'll ask him next time I see him.

Ace, too right about the PT score; I'll keep you all updated as I improve.
