Fort Hood gates closed after shooting
Updated: Feb 13, 2006 4:41pm
Fort Hood gates were shut down Monday morning to outgoing traffic for about an hour while military police searched for a gunman.

According to the F.B.I. the incident centered around a domestic dispute between a 13th Coscom Soldier and her husband.

Agents say 22 year old David Leon Jones, a civilian, was trying to reconcile with his wife during her physical training around 6:30am.

The two began to argue and Jones pulled out a gun.

During part of this reconciliation on the pt field things didn’t seem to be going his way so he pulled out a weapon and put it to his head at the time a lot of people started scattering and then he put the gun away from his head and fired off two rounds and got back in his car.

Agents say Jones hit another car as he was fleeing the scene, but was able to make it off post. He was later arrested at a gas station by Killeen Police Officers.

Jones has been charged with attempted murder, and he will be arraigned on Tuesday in a Federal Courtroom in Waco.

Dang.

The MSG that used to be at our school told us about when a guy in his platoon in Alaska brought a gun to formation and shot himself in the head.

He said the worst thing about it was all the paperwork.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, he went from state to federal criminal status the minute he drove through the gate.

Here's hoping he gets monkey-stomped until his brains look like an overpriced dessert at a snooty restaurant.

I don't think this will make much diffrence, but the chick was sleeping around on him. With that said, I wasn't a big fan of diving into a turle ditch and hoping whoever was shooting didn't decide to continue the rampage. (We didn't see the guy, so we thought it was a sniper in the barracks)

How did he make it off post? :-?

If Hood's anything like Carson (I just haven't taken the time to notice on my last couple of visits to Hood), they have rent-a-cops on the gates now.

Only so much someone working for just above minimum wage is willing to do--especially if the perp's already demonstrated that he has a firearm in his possession.

Maybe they deemed it safer for the Soldiers on Hood to allow this knucklehead to leave the premises?

Besides, they're tasked with keeping the baddies from coming IN, not from going OUT.

They're pussies, then. If it were like "Oh no! He's stealing a television and DVD player, and we know he's armed!" That's one thing. I don't expect anyone to risk their life for that. I was a security guard for a few summers, and I know for a fact that it would be bullshit. But goddamnit, he's a threat to the safety of EVERYONE THERE. He already fired shots at people! Do what's right, not just as a damn guard, but as a fucking MAN.
End rant.

My guess: he got off post before the call got out to close the gates. That's not too hard to imagine, I wouldn't start placing blame on guards or MPs so quickly.

yeah Im assuming thats what happened. Gate guards are armed, and theres usually a bunch of them (depending on the entrance).

Thinking it over, you're probably right. But, just saying hypothetically, if Skull's situation were what happened, my former statement would stand.
However, all the guards I've seen seem to be pretty competent, and that's just at Picatinny, Dix, Indiantown Gap, and USMA.

hood is like a city in itself... would be pretty easy to get out

There are about 30,000 people on Fort Hood, it's hard to shut everything down in a matter of minutes. Plus, I'm sure they didn't want to force him into a situation on Post where there'd be another shootout. Don't know the offical reason though

As a civilian, I'd say the new civilian guards on post are doing a pretty good job. They're 10x more serious about their job than security guards I've seen everywhere else. (No, not talking about mall cops...) They had a dog sniffing someone's car last time I went to Ft. Campbell. There were civilian guards last time I went down to Jacksonville Naval Air Station too. Someone told me the DoD switched all security gate positions to civilian guards, and why, but I forget now. True?

almost.. you will still see a few MP's. the reason why is the shortage of MP's i would think. but yeah there pretty much everywhere I saw a few still at Lewis
