WTFo? I'm gonna smack my PMS. I should have found out today as well. Bullshit, I bet everyone else in the Nation and in my Bat already know their branches. But me... Nooooooo. That would be too much to ask I guess, I've only been waiting to find out for the past 4 years. Ass clown. [/end rant]

Anyway, congrats Varn. Glad you got your first choice. I got no jokes for transcorps, you guys get the top choice assignments. Have fun at Fort Useless, that place sucks.

Yeah, I actually like that area though...Eastern region got screwed cause of some conferance they are having. So if your stuck with them you won't find out till next week. That and CC screwed up the posting of Branches and had to individually send them to every Battalion. God bless technology and the problems it creates.

It seems that no matter what you are waiting to hear "the man" always fails you. I am supposed to hear about my student teaching assignment, which starts next semester----but do I know which school I am going to be at? NO! Do I have to move out of the dorm if I get the school district I requested? YES. Does this all have to be done by Friday? YES. Damn the man.

Well that explains my situation then. Conference? WTFo? I didn't hear about no stinking conference. I'm suppose to be on the bleeding edge of cadet related news and here I am getting second hand gossip as to why my branching notice is late. Come on guys, you are suppose to be my eyes and ears on the battlefield. Information like this should immediately be posted on the forum for all to know. That's kind of the idea behind AisforArmy. Sharing of knowledge and what not. Anyway, for future reference, that is the kinda crap I like to hear about. Thanks for the insight Varn.

Ran across this today: http://www.branchorientation.com Apparently it's required reading for all cadets submitting accessions packets. I guess it wasn't around when I was filling out the forms, or maybe my cadre just didn't care enough to tell me.

Location: West by God Virginia
Care to tell me where in VA? I used to live in NOVA. Oh, and congrats on your branching. JAG and MI, looks like AIFA finally got our hands on a smart one.

::Edit, maybe I'm just retarded. But I think I just realized it's West by God Virginia. Feel free to make fun of me::

Ha... Field Artillery... pound 'em from the rear. I guess it could be Chem, though... nothing like NBC day, every day! ;)

Anyway, look on the bright side for those of you that still don't know: some of my friends at BU (Boston University) tell me that their PMS wasn't gonna tell them their branch until their dining in tonight (Saturday), at which point it would get announced to the whole world. What a way to go if you don't get your top choice... some prick that guy must be. With any luck this damned blizzard snowed out his master plan...

Now here's a question for you (and probably a stupid one): does Immediate Active mean just that, or does it have some hidden special meaning?

Also, when do you start training and shit?

Immediate Active just means that I am fully qualified and ready to go asap or a soon as necissary. Active duty is similar to what most MSIVs are getting. They are going to go active duty, but they haven't graduated yet. Then of course there is Educational Delay and Reserve/Guard. I'll start training when I start training, and shit. It's just like the Army to make you wait for another list after finally telling you your branch. I should find out in FEB or MAR when I'll be leaving.

p.s. Gook, if you see this:

Ummm... is that right? I'll defer to someone else who may know more as appropriate, but I know that even as a "regular MSIV" you can still get IAD or AD. The main difference is whether or not you leave immediately.... hence, "Immediate Active Duty". No shit, though, it's the difference between waiting until July for an OBC slot, leaving the day after (or in some cases, the day of) graduation. I even know a guy that got IAD who had to leave for his duty station the day BEFORE graduation... yeah, good job, Army.

Oh, and congrats, Sammy. ;)

Thanks so much guys, I really do appreciate it. Well I just talked to my branch rep at Cadet Command and I was told I should be finding out my flight school start date by monday. She also said they'd be having classes start in Jan and Feb and that I should be going to one of those. So it looks like I might be leaving a lot sooner than I expected, which means it's time to really start getting back in shape. Damn civilian life has turned me into a sloth.

Just curious what all your gpa, pt , and NALC scores were in relation to your national OML and your branching results.

Just curious what all your gpa, pt , and NALC scores were in relation to your national OML and your branching results.

Crap, crappier, and crappier-er... Don't try and figure out the system by asking everyone and their mother's OML ranking. What does it really matter anyways? If someone gets their first choice but has lower scores than you, does that mean that you'll lower your performance? Remember these four words: Needs of the Army. There really is no point in trying to predict the outcome of branching. All you can do is be prepared and perform. And remember, if you don't get what you want, you can always request it be changed or transfer later on.

p.s. I was a cadet not too long ago and realize how agonizing it can be waiting to find out your branch, and I too wanted to know other cadet's scores. I may only be a couple years wiser, but take my word for it when I say it doesn't really matter.

Heard a nasty nasty rumor that they were going to force LTs who are already branched something (like SIGNAL) into the MPs or the Infantry. If that's the case, I don't think you'll have any problem getting your those, Wes. Of course, you normally HAVE to put Aviation down first, cause if you don't, you won't get it at all. Food for thought from me to you.

Sammy Sandbag
18 April 2004, 16:26
Actually they are taking a number of ADA and FA soldiers and converting them to MPs. Not too sure about doing that with LTs. I'm not sure if you are trying to weight your list down Wes, but you won't get either Aviation or Infantry unless they are listed as your number 1.

Wes
19 April 2004, 06:14
Huh? Our school is handing those 2 branches out like candy, I've only seen one person get a MP slot in the last 3yrs. We have about 4 guys branched INF, and have 2 branched aviation this semester.

Honestly though, if I don't get one of my top 3 I'll turn down my commision. I'm going for retirement anyway. By the time I gradutate college I'll be an NCO with about 7 or 8yrs time in service if I don't take my commision.

That has little to do with where it is placed on your list. Like I said, You won't be branched Aviation if it isn't placed at number one on your list, I believe the same goes for IN. Also, maybe only 1 person in the past 3 years has asked for MP. It isn't that popular of a branch compared to AV or AR. I can only think of one person who branched it during all 4 years in ROTC, but she was the only one to ask for it. Giving two AV slots and 4 IN is hardly giving it out like candy, my school gave out the same amount my graduation year as well. It has less to do with the school and more to do with the cadets.

You realize that by that time you are already contracted to the Army as an officer, and it is very difficult if not impossible to break that contract.

However, as noted in other threads, don't forget that there are a good number of ways to switch your branch assignment...

Sammy Sandbag
19 April 2004, 13:46
True dat. I would not attempt to resign a commission based on getting an unwanted branch. The majority of officers that don't get their top choice end up actually enjoying their job. It's what you make of it really, and you'll basically be doing the same stuff despite your branch. But as Gambit said, there are ways to get what you want.
