ahh.. first post

Not an MSIV but some more experience on doing training scenarios. biggest tip I can give is "dont lose your cool." I was doing a platoon raid a few summers ago and as we were on the objective calling up reports to higher, had 3 civilians come into the area. they were more pains than the guys on the objective itself. 1) if u are in charge make sure someone is with u pulling security. dont put your weapon down, but dont give them the idea that you are going to shoot them. make them feel comfortable. 2) security (nuff said) 3) keep control of your entire element and your surroundings. as we were dealing with the civilians some OPFOR started firing on us with 240s from a shack few hundred yards away (2-240s, a rifle team and an AT4 took care of them. No matter what u do, as long as you are in control, and you follow the guidelines. u should do well.

at least thats what is showing up as my first post.

WTF does that have to do with the guy's question?!?

maybe he was just reminiscing about his first post?

anyhow, from what I heard, second hand through my gf who is from Dime Box,Tx...down the road a piece from BCS, she says that as far as culture around the school ROTC is fairly well appreciated, and the town really caters well to cadets, etc. A far cry difference from the UC system here in Cali....

I know that doesn't have anything to do with command structure or anything, but I figured a little anecdotal info wouldn't hurt...

yea the corp gets mad respect in college station, I might just know a few kids in the corp at A&M, let me check the face book action of who's still there from high school. Jesus that was long ago

Texas A&M turned off us MJC guys because they said if we wanted to go there after we comish, we'd go there as cadet 2lt's. They believe you'll get more leadership chances if your acting as a cadet there and wearing the cadet uniform. Frankly, after working for the gold I would tell them to cram it with walnuts.

I'm a little confused, how can they take away a commission?

Aries

huh?

They're not taking away your comission. Your just 'acting' as a cadet again. They think it'll let you 'fit in' or some BS.

if you go there, do you HAVE to be in the rotc program?

no. in fact some people are in the Corps who dont comission, they are just there for the experience...
i almost went to A&M. Hell, i was named after Bryan, Texas believe it or not. I was accepted but ended up turning it down. I know a couple guys who were in the Corps. I think Bryan/College Station supports the Corps by and large and it has decent training opportunities for you as a cadet. However they follow the senior military school model, so expect to be called and do all the random fun things that are required of a plebe, fish, whatever.
I can't imagine any university making you join the Corps..did you request some kind of advanced military training or what..how did they know you were an officer?

hey, thanks everybody for the replies. what he says is true. what little info i foung outside the official website led me to believe that if you went to a mjc (marion, nmi, georgia military) that you were obligated to participate in the corps, at least if you want a scholarship. if you go to a mjc, most require you to go to LTC. i was planning on going to marion, went to LTC, but found out when i graduated that marion lost 18 scholarships, and mine was one that got cut.

That sucks dude.. its definitely a good program here at Marion but after last year, we've exploded in recruiting. Good luck in your travels though dude.

That makes no sense, how would they even know or care? To them you're just some random college student, the whole school isn't a SMC, it's a civilian school with a fulltime corps. Why would you even go over to the corps, no point in it?

Right. There is no point going over to the corps.. but I guess some people would like to go to the corps and still get to wear their gold bar.

Indeed. Let me think, I just got commissioned, what do I want to do now. I know, I'll go be a cadet again, but this time at full-time cadet corps. That my friends is the definition of retarded. The only reason I can see this is if you were guaranteed a scholarship and had no other alternative.

Sammy, there is a second, more incidious possibility--

MASOCHISM!
