My school's program doesn't really mention these at all...I know some Battalions are required to get them, etc. Anyway, I'll be needing one for this summer, and I just called my local base. I asked if they give IDs to ROTC cadets and the woman said I need to talk to my 'recruiter'. What the hell?
So before I go and bother any of my cadre, could any of you tell me what kind of documentation I need to get my ID?
Thanks in advance.

If you are already contracted, go talk to your class advisor or the battalion's administrative person. The admin specialist here just set me up w/ an appointment for the reserve recruiting center (where they make IDs) and she gave me a form or two to fill out.

Originally our school just made them themselves, these were the old kind that were simply laminated paper with your picture on it. The newer kind have to be made by a special machine because of the micro chip. I didn't get mine from my school, I went to Ft. Jackson and got it. You should already be in the DEERS, so they can just pull you up and make one for you. I believe all you need is a photo id to prove who you are (DL.) If your school can't get it done, then go to your nearest post's ID office.

If your not contracted, you ain't gettin' a card. I know that some schools do send some non-contracted basic course cadets to Robin Sage, and also Airborne. At airborne, they had to have a picture ID of some sort along with a copy or your orders.
I however did not run accrossed any personally at Robin Sage.

Seton Hall doesn't send any noncontracted cadets to any special schools. They're afraid to waste a slot on someone who could just bolt later if they don't want to stay. Understandable. They also use them as retention tools, as in "If you contract, we could see about getting you an ABN slot..."
As for IDs, we don't get 'em unless we contract.

In that case, just talk to your cadre S-1 or whatever, he/she'll hook you up.
When I got mine before I came home from school, my MS instructor (a major) and I were turned away twice, the first time because I didn't have a copy of my contract, the second time because I didn't have a collared shirt or uniform on. Judging from the other posts, it may have been tougher where I got mine, but I would suggest bringing a copy of your contract (which you should get if you don't already have your own copy) and wearing a polo shirt just to be on the safe side.
