View Full Version : Stipend increase?
I have heard that for 2005-2006 they have increased stipend by 100 dollars.
What's the deal?

Know MG Thrasher wanted to up it, but needed to talk with AF/Navy before he did it. They have historically kept the three equal, he wants the added benefit for the Army. The money is already there to do it.
That being said, I'll count it after they put it in my account.

Good, it's hard to survive on that stipend.
Glad they finally raised book money.

we one of guys went to some convention at VMI a couple weeks ago and he said it does sound like it's gonna happen. Apparently there are a ton of changes on the way for Cadet Land. A lot of which deal with LDAC and such, but also a 50-100 increase in stipend pay. Im all for it

anyone here about possible 01 pay at camp too. probably not this year but next.
Also heard about weapons being issued at camp with blanks at the begining that we have to account for. Apparently there are too many accidents especially from officers in Iraq.

Herd- yeah, it was the Marshall conference. there's a 'casual' session with MG Thrasher to talk about things to expect in the next year or so (read: after the people attending have commissioned) and gets the rumor mills a-rollin. Know at least some of the stuff from last year's was implemented (book increase).
For the pay increase, they're trying to up it $50 for Is and IIs, $100 for IIIs and IVs. They are talking about paying at or close to 2lt pay for ldac and ctlt/nstp since you obviously can't hold down a job during that time. Once again in the pipes, were hoping for last summer, said he was still trying for this summer. My orders I received for today didn't reflect that, though, so I'm betting we'll see it for ldac 06. With the weapons, it's kinda a thing of if they can get their hands on enough- the number of reg's going at the same time could make that difficult, esp. if soldiers actually need them to defend themselves elsewhere.

25 April 2005, 21:36
need what to defend themselves? blanks?
killernurse
25 April 2005, 21:42
I was thinking more along the lines of soldiers being deployed needing them (m16's) in Iraq/Afghanistan as they clear buildings and prevent attacks... but cadets with blanks to protect against the potty monster's okay too.

On the subject of weapons, I saw the standards for getting Recondo at camp this year. In the BRM portion you only need to qualify at the minimal level. WTF is this? Seems like Cadet Command is settling for mediocrity on this. Yea, a 290 on a PT test is great, but if you can barely send accurate rounds down range, you're sucking at a basic soldiering skill. With combat the way it is today, and everyone being in the fight, I don't see why we should have people being told the minimum is ok.

Yeah KN, Bridgett (from my bn) was tellin' me 'bout the changes that MG Thrasher was wanting to do. Lets hope they're a reality. Because seriously, I work during the summer to maintain rent, car payments, etc. Army doesn't pay enough to take an entire month away from me.

actually, the army is smarter than the average bear. It doesnt take much to figure out that when cadets grade each other, the smart ones will ALWAYS qualify...
Aries
26 April 2005, 12:22
is that how it works at ldac? yall grade each other?

CDTs will not be grading each other at LDAC this Summer. They are moving to an electronic scoring system with pop-up targets. Also, look forward to long days wearing flak vests. One plus for this year is you guys spend more time in the field than the barracks.

Ive heard the electronic scoring is for sure, but not the flak jackets. Supposedly it came down to too much gross weight...some cadets(mostly females i think) cant physically carry their ruck, lbe, and flakvest without having to worry about significant injuries.

...some cadets(mostly females i think) cant physically carry their ruck, lbe, and flakvest without having to worry about significant injuries.well, that's one theory... one out of Thrasher's mouth was more along the lines of if we can get them (i.e. think like the M16's) and it won't hamper training for those being deployed, we'll wear them. It's not about male/female on this- women wear it in the field also. Train how you fight. That said, the weight of a loaded ruck, vest, lbe (w/ water and ammo) and weapon would be pretty close to my body weight- doesn't mean that I can't do it- means I probably should focus on squats and core strengthening exercises for the next two months.

27 April 2005, 09:27
wow GIJared. that was one of the most sexist comments i have seen here. where the fuck have you been for the last few years? we dont do any more "dont do this cuz it hurts girls" shit anymore. train as you fight. they are gonna be wearing the same crap if they get deployed, so put it on them now. as stated before, seen skinny ass girls damn near outruck me on ruck runs (not concrete runs but runs through the woods and around/through a lake). so shut up and ruck up. I have seen more guys bitch about putting on rucks and carrying weapons than girls.

But Aries, it hurts my back!
Aries
27 April 2005, 09:34
dude... my back was scarred after AA school and buckner. something i used to do (and when i got to ROTC they went ape shit cuz it didnt look like everyone elses) was on the LCE i cut the meat hooks off the back and put 550 cord on instead. makes it a lot more comfortable. but of course, in ROTC everyone throws a fucking hissy fit if you look different cuz that will make you more likely to get killed by the enemy if you are comfortable.

Haha, little shit like that I know I could get away with.
WTFo?? Can't carry it? FUCK YOU. Fuck every cocksucking bitch who says they can't deal with the added weight of a FLACK VEST!
IBA vs flack vest... 40lbs vs. 10lbs
I guess you guys won't be getting deployed any time soon.
My gear was around 80lbs in Baghdad. That included: DCUs, kevlar, large IBA, M16/M203, camel back, 210 5.56 rounds (7mags), SINGAR w/ 1 spare battery,1 M203 parachute flare, PVS 14 (NODS), and 1 MRE.
This is just for everyday patrols and IED sweeps.
I'm leaving out some small things that I didn't carry every time I left the compound. Also make sure to add the weight of breech tools if you are going on a raid.
Since you guys will be Officers you don't have to worry about carrying a SAW or M240B, so don't sweat over adding another 20-30lbs to your load.
So like I said, no bitching about adding a flack vest during "Camp". I'm not aiming this stuff at females, it applies to all cadets.

Flack vests stop flack... even 9mm will go right through them.
IBA has the plates in the front and back that are "rated to stop anything at or under 7.62mm"
Oh and I've heard two things for the DCU the one you guys haven't said yet is the Desert Combat Uniform.
